Learning Objectives: After this workshop the student will understand the historical basis for the current medical care system, and will be able to utilize the new paradigm of holistic care in their own practices, culturally and realistically looking for outcome-based evaluators for successful caring and healing of the unwell.
Vickie Roundy, RN, CHPN, has worked in nursing much of her life, with a start as a licensed nurse’s aide, medical assistant and medical office manager; earning a license in Practical Nursing in 1986, and her Registered Nursing degree in 1989. She was a founding member of the Asante Hospice at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Oregon in 1991, and has worked there for over twenty years. Vickie continues to actively train and educate health care providers through workshops and classes on holistic care of the dying at skilled nursing facilities, home care agencies, assisted living facilities and volunteer programs for hospice and palliative care. She has been nationally certified as a hospice and palliative care specialty nurse for over ten years, and has a special interest in comfort care, symptom management, and empowering the patient and caregiver. She is the author of Help Me Understand: caring and caregiving for the dying, a booklet for those striving to care for the dying in the home setting. This booklet has been used by numerous hospice and home care agencies nationwide.
