My work in emancipatory social work, community engaged cultural anthropology, and transformative pedagogy is focused on cultural humility, ubuntu, transformative complicity, and systems based empowerment in the process community capacity building.

Ravaged By Climate Change, The Great Barrier Reef May Never Be The Same | HuffPost

As mass bleaching continues to devastate large swathes of the Great Barrier Reef, scientists are fast losing hope that the world’s largest living organism can be saved in its entirety. Conceding that climate change will “inevitably” cause the decline of the reef’s overall health in the coming decades, reef experts have started talking about a possible “Plan B” — a strategy that won’t save the reef as a whole, but may at least ensure that it doesn’t disappear completely.

In Victory for Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Court Finds That Approval of Dakota Access Pipeline Violated the Law |THE INDIGENOUS AMERICAN

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe won a significant victory today in its fight to protect the Tribe’s drinking water and ancestral lands from the Dakota Access pipeline. A federal judge ruled that the federal permits authorizing the pipeline to cross the Missouri River just upstream of the Standing Rock reservation, which were hastily issued by the Trump administration just days after the inauguration, violated the law in certain critical respects.
