The Post-apocalyptic NOW!

Feeling Spring blowing our way.

The daylight grows longer, rousing me from a long winter's nap.

Welcome to the Ashland Resource Center.

May your creative projects all be blessed. You can utilize this network as it grows to share about yourself and your projects/business/organizations. This is our own community version of MySpace/FaceBook.

You can fill out your "MyPage" with more information and resources. In the "text" box you can add a description, format text, upload photos, embed video, etc. This is your own little "website" with full capabilities. You can "Edit" features on your "MyPage," move the boxes around by selecting and dragging the headers to where you want them on the page. You can even change your theme and appearance.

In the "RSS" box you can add any RSS feed. You can upload a profile photo or logo under "MySettings" so we can feature your page.

For new member instructions and tutorial go to: FAQ's & Tutorial

Use this network to share yourself in the local community by inviting your friends under "Members" to see your "MyPage" profile and add their own. This is how the network grows strong and we are kept informed locally.

Namaste,
-Johnny

Walking in the dark

I tend to be a night owl, so most of my training hikes have been in the evenings. Monday night was no exception. After walking up the fairly well lit hills of Ashland's south side, I continued into the darkness of Siskiyou Mountain Park. A few weeks ago, while on the same path, when the way got darker, I decided not to venture into the unknown. Monday night was different.

Especially when there is moonlight, I find flashlights to be a nuisance. They tend to prevent our natural night…

Progress ... (part III) an entry detailing some of my preparations for a journey up Mt. Kilimanjaro!

Republished from Light Ripple Enterprises

This morning started well and the day just kept getting better. I was up early enough for meditation and breakfast before 10am! Usually by that time on the weekends I'm just rolling over to listen to NPR. But there was more progress to be made. First, a dear friend is moving back to Berkeley and need some help loading the moving truck. Indeed, many hands make light work. With all…

Progress ... (part II) an entry detailing some of my preparations for a journey up Mt. Kilimanjaro!

Republished from Light Ripple Enterprises

Saturday morning I was determined to get an earlier start than most weekends. It was going to be my 'long' day of 3+ hours. While the terrain was not difficult, the distance wore me out a little. This was the longest training hike to date in both time and distance. A stop to visit the pharmacist on the way out and the way back gave me a couple of breaks. It also gave me malaria…

Progress... an entry detailing some of my preparations for a journey up Mt. Kilimanjaro!

... moving forward or an advance.

First of all, a big congratulations to the Green Bay Packers and their victory over 'da Bearz'. They are living "progress", advancing to Superbowl XLV.

It feels like there has been some good progress made in my preparations to climb to Uhuru (Freedom) Peak just 25 days from now. Much has been accomplished; much is still to be done.

Thursday was my day of rest. All this walking around is great exercise, but sometimes a guy just gets…

The Dharma Rider's Dictionary: A guide to riding through life with great joy | Commentary

By Zander Dorje

With the new year, it's time to dust off an old project and move it forward to completion.

Each entry is composed of three parts:

  1. First - the term and a general definition. Each of these can become the focal point of a meditation. As you consider the concept, you…

Fukushima's Nuclear Waste Will Be Dumped Into the Ocean, Japanese Plant Owner Says | Newsweek

A member of the media uses a Geiger counter at Tokyo Electric Power Company's (TEPCO) Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant in Okuma, Fukushima, Japan, February 23. The site includes hundreds of tanks containing about 777,000 tons of water laced with tritium that TEPCO has decided to dump into the nearby sea, despite opposition from local fishermen.

Tainted: Can California solve pot's pesticide problem? | The Cannifornian

The big difference will be the amount of pesticides in your weed. That’s because starting Jan. 2,  when California’s vast legal marijuana market opens, all cannabis must be tested — and most chemicals will be banned. Much of California’s cannabis is tainted, including the “medicinal” stuff. But soon state-sanctioned weed may become the greenest in the nation.

Monsanto, Bayer, DuPont, Dow Chemical, and Syngenta defend their coming oligopoly (MON) (DD) (DOW) (SYT) | Quartz

Top executives from Bayer, Monsanto, DuPont, Dow Chemical, and Syngenta today (Sept. 20) testified before the US Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington, making a case for why federal regulators should approve the mega-mergers, which stand to fundamentally reorganize global agriculture. (Executives from the sixth company involved in the consolidation, China National Chemical Corp., declined an invitation to appear at the hearing.)
