Directed by Jeff Orlowski, “Chasing Ice” is the stunning 2012 filmed account of James Balog’s Extreme Ice Survey. The film, having won awards at film festivals all over the world, will be featured at the next Southern Oregon Climate Action Now meeting on July 29th @ 6:00 pm at the Medford Public Library. Admission is free, but donations to SOCAN are encouraged.
By means of time lapse photography, Balog documented one of the most dramatic consequences of our warming planet: the melting of Arctic glaciers. The film dramatically depicts the failures and successes of the expedition while capturing amazing images of huge ice blocks larger than Manhattan breaking away as glaciers across the Arctic recede.
Total running time is 76 minutes, but the video will be shown in two parts, punctuated by, and followed by, a brief panel and audience discussion.
